Community Health Planning
As part of their mandate, Community Health Boards (CHBs) develop community health plans that make recommendations to the District Health Authority (GASHA) to improve health programs and services for our communities. In order to develop the community health plan, CHBs find out what the important health issues are through community consultations and surveys.
What Is a Community Health Plan?
A Community Health Plan…
- Identifies the priority issues affecting community health
- Presents recommendations for health planning to the District Health Authority – the Guysborough Antigonish District Health Authority (GASHA) which, when implemented, will work toward improving the health of the community.
- Documents the role the CHB will play in advocating for and supporting implementation in partnership with GASHA and the community.
When are Community Health Plans developed?
A community health plan is developed every three years and submitted to the Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority (GASHA).
For each year within that plan, each CHB submits and Operational Plan. This includes the following:
- A “report card” on progress made by GASHA on CHB recommendations;
- Any adjustments or additions to recommendations to GASHA;
- A report on CHB Accomplishments for that year;
- Proposed CHB activities for the next year;
